A character is extremely good at one useless skill.
Today is the first time that skill actually matters.

It’s been a while since anyone’s given me a shot. I tend to be overlooked, undervalued, picked over for one reason or another. The one time I am given a shot, I fuck it up.

“You can fuel the hover craft its going to easy just follow the HUD display.”

Yeah right, I went out my HUD shorted then everything went to shit. The fuel line snapped due to one fault or another. Everything was on fire for a moment, then it all went calm when the fire suppression kicked in. Along with the fire, it put out the irreplaceable long range hover bird that had come in for a simple refuel and ammo check.

I was so fucked, the admin of the floor finally put his trust into my abilities and now I am in a line with all the other juniors that where on duty during the “Biggest Fuck up all year”. Everyone is tense right now, we are all straight backed and holding our breaths. I can feel the admins gaze on me. It took all my willpower to meet his gaze. I imagined daggers, hate, the kind of malice that only comes from years of dealing with fuck-ups like me.

What I saw as I looked up was not what I expected…Instead of anger, there was confusion. His eyes darted from my face, to my name tag, to his fuel-stained clipboard. His eyes where darting like he was trying to draw a triangle from my face to my name tag then finally ending on his fuel stained clip board.

“Are you part of the day crew?” He said drawing out the words like a they would make more sense the longer they hung in the air.

I was taken aback, I snapped quickly “Yes, sir I have day shift. I am Junior 1”. I have been serving under him for almost a year at this point. I dont exactly speak to him daily but at least every other day.

The reply seem to have only had his puzzlement grow he shifted to his Stewart who simply shrugged. “Her name is in the roaster sir, yet I dont recognize her. Must be a recent transfer.”

Before I could interject and incriminate my self at the place of the Big fuck up it seemed that the Admin had his own conclusions to draw. It started with a sound that was impressively dismissive for what sounded like a throaty hack before bellowing out.

“Ash-lan, You are being sited for not reporting for duty today. You will be fined 80 credits.”

He then turned about face sauntering down the line for someone who he might view as the grand culprit. It seems being over looked has one advantage.
